In the framework of the XV Annual Congress of the European Association of Delirium and the XXVI Congress of the Catalan Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology, the professor of the psychology program Ana Milena Gaviria G\u00f3mez, has participated as a speaker, together with professionals from different countries, in the opening day with the conference \u00abNeuropsychology of Delirum\u00bb where he discussed the importance of neuropsychological evaluation of these patients, as a tool to support the diagnosis, especially when it appears superimposed on dementia, and as a means to establish the functional prognosis to medium and long term.<\/p>\n
The European Delirium Association was founded in the mid-2000s by an enthusiastic group of practitioners and researchers, realizing that there was much work to be done to understand the often underrecognized \u00abpathophysiology, phenomenology, and etiology\u00bb of delirium, still severely debilitating condition. This benefit for the patient could only be achieved by transcending the traditional boundaries between professions and specialties.<\/p>\n
The European Delirium Association sees itself as a mediator for those interested in the field. One of the main goals of the organization in the past has been to provide a platform for communication: the annual scientific meetings of the European Delirium Association. As the European Delirium Association has grown, the organization has become increasingly active in basic and advanced education on delirium locally and internationally, formulating policy, coordinating cross-border research and positioning itself as a authoritative voice in the professional community, together with partner organizations outside Europe.<\/p>\n
