In an effort to improve the comprehensive rehabilitation of critically ill patients, graduates Lesly Gineth Torres Heredia and Valeria Sanclemente Cardoza, together with researchers Harold Pay\u00e1n and Jos\u00e9 Luis Estela Zape from the Cali campus, have published an innovative study in the Medicine Magazine Criticism. The research titled \u00abEvaluation of muscle strength by handgrip dynamometry in intensive care units\u00bb addresses the importance of specific measurement of muscle strength in intensive care settings.<\/p>\n
Handgrip dynamometry is presented as a key tool in this research, proving to be a simple, portable, safe and easily replicable method to evaluate the peripheral muscle strength of patients directly in their bed. This approach is established as an ideal complement to the Medical Research Council scale, providing a more complete and accurate assessment of the patient’s muscular status.<\/p>\n

The objective measurement of muscle strength has become essential data for the follow-up and prognosis of patients in the ICU, offering crucial information on muscle weakness acquired in the ICU, the effectiveness of early mobilization programs, the length of stay hospitalization and success in the ventilatory weaning and extubation process.<\/p>\n
