At the Cali headquarters, professor Wilmer Arley Criollo L\u00f3pez, together with graduate Jhoselin Daniela Castillo Mart\u00ednez, have made a significant contribution to the field of physiotherapy through the publication of the article titled: \u00abChanges in pulmonary physiology and mechanical ventilation in obese patients with covid-19. Bibliographic Review\u00bb, in the prestigious journal Gaceta M\u00e9dica de Caracas. This study examines changes in lung physiology, the impact of physiotherapy and mechanical ventilation in obese patients affected by Covid-19, a particularly vulnerable group due to respiratory complications associated with obesity.<\/p>\n

Through a comprehensive literature review, the authors explore how changes in the lung physiology of obese patients compound challenges in their treatment, especially in those requiring mechanical ventilation. In this context, the relevance of physiotherapy interventions is highlighted, which not only contribute to improving respiratory function, but also optimize the use of mechanical ventilation techniques, reducing complications derived from this intervention in critically ill patients.<\/p>\n

The study offers a solid base of scientific evidence that supports the integration of respiratory physiotherapy in the comprehensive management of obese patients with covid-19, highlighting the importance of adapting interventions to the particularities of this population. The authors highlight the need to have physiotherapists as an integral part of multidisciplinary teams, emphasizing their role in improving lung function and post-ventilator recovery.<\/p>\n

This work not only enriches current knowledge on the treatment of critically ill patients with Covid-19, but also opens new avenues for the implementation of more effective strategies in the management of mechanical ventilation in obese people. The article by these authors highlights the essential role of physiotherapy in the care of patients with complex respiratory pathologies, offering key recommendations to optimize clinical results and improve the quality of life of those affected.<\/p>\n
