The Research and Innovation in Health Sciences Journal (RIICS) of Fundaci\u00f3n Universitaria Mar\u00eda Cano has been classified in Category B in the 2026 National Scientific Journal Classification and Recognition Call \u2013 Publindex, consolidating its recognition as a high-quality scientific journal and a leading publication in its field of knowledge.<\/p>\n
This classification was awarded because RIICS is indexed in Scopus and ranked in Quartile 3 (Q3) of the SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), one of the world’s leading indicators used to assess the impact and visibility of scientific journals.<\/p>\n
This achievement holds special significance as it represents RIICS’s first classification in Publindex, obtaining Category B directly. The result reflects the journal’s consolidation within a relatively short editorial development period and demonstrates the quality achieved in its editorial management, peer-review, and scientific publication processes.<\/p>\n
The Publindex classification is obtained after successfully completing three evaluation stages: compliance with editorial management processes, validation of the peer-review process and journal visibility, and assessment of scientific impact. RIICS successfully passed all evaluation phases, demonstrating compliance with the standards established by Colombia’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.<\/p>\n
A total of 648 scientific journals participated in this edition of the call, of which 533 were endorsed. Ultimately, 516 journals obtained classification or recognition: 12 were classified as A1, 30 as A2, 132 as B, 200 as C, and 142 received recognition from Publindex.<\/p>\n
Journals that did not receive a category but were recognized by Publindex successfully passed the first two evaluation stages; however, they did not achieve the scientific impact level required in the third phase to be classified within the system’s categories.<\/p>\n
For Fundaci\u00f3n Universitaria Mar\u00eda Cano, RIICS’s Category B classification represents a significant institutional achievement. The result reflects the institution’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence, research strengthening, and the consolidation of an editorial culture based on scientific rigor, ethical best practices, and high-quality editorial processes.<\/p>\n
Likewise, this accomplishment recognizes the collective efforts of the editorial team, authors, editors, national and international reviewers, and all researchers who have trusted RIICS as a platform for disseminating their scientific findings. The Category B classification also strengthens RIICS’s national and international projection. This recognition is expected to increase the journal’s visibility, attract a greater number of high-quality submissions, and further consolidate its position as a leading publication venue for health sciences research.<\/p>\n
