Research in Physiotherapy at the service of the community
- 29 abril, 2022

The researchers of the FISIOTER group, of the Medellin-based Physiotherapy program, Javier Ignacio García Correa and Marco Antonio Chaves García, share with us the publication of the book research results: «Physical activity from promotion and prevention in physiotherapy», of which they are compilers of the ten chapters contained in the manuscript. One of the challenges of physiotherapy is growth in relation to research; In this way, scientific works help to understand the objectives of science. If it intends to build a rigorous, methodical and as objective knowledge as possible, then its results will also have to be communicated in a precise and clear way, which limits as much as possible the misrepresentations that are so frequent in modern language, for this reason the scientific communication radiates a great diversity of contexts and interests of the university and scientific community, which is evidenced in its varied pragmatic and superstructural organization.
It is then that producing a book was a challenge to contribute to the knowledge of physiotherapy and its object of study which, according to Law 528 of 1999, is the «understanding and management of human body movement, as an essential element of health. and well-being of man”, where the issue of promotion and prevention in physical activity in physiotherapy is strengthened, contributing to the maintenance, optimization of human body movement, as well as prevention, rehabilitation, rehabilitation and comprehensive recovery of people, optimizing the quality of life and contribute to their social development. These investigative actions will renew and build knowledge which contributes to that understanding of the object of study, to the development of what to do professionally. Likewise, the interaction of the physiotherapist with other disciplines or professionals with whom he interacts is reflected, for the contribution of fundamental elements of his professional practice.
With the idea of contributing to this discussion and directing greater efforts in the physiotherapy revolution in the area of promotion and prevention in physical activity, the proposal was made by a team of research teachers who compiled the chapters that make up this book. The goal is to create awareness and organized thinking in those of us who make this profession something wonderful, hoping that the reader will find in its contents the ideas and principles that invite him to join the path of new challenges in physiotherapy.
With this book it is intended then, to provide updates on the issues of promotion and prevention in physical activity from the perspective of the physiotherapist, being an extension of the exercise of the profession in terms of scientific research; design, execution, direction of physiotherapeutic intervention programs for the promotion of health and kinetic well-being, the prevention of deficiencies, functional limitations, disabilities and changes in physical condition in individuals and communities at risk; management of physiotherapeutic services in the sectors of social security, health, work, education and other sectors of national development; advice and participation in the design and formulation of health and physiotherapy policies and projection of professional practice.
The book highlights topics related to sports, rehabilitation, health, education, inclusion, prevention and development, terms that are combined to influence the comprehensive development (physical, social, emotional and psychological) of healthy people and people with specific disabilities. That is why it is a scientific work for: physiotherapists and other professionals in the health sciences.
The topics covered are surprisingly current, to the point that, for example, it shows research results related to covid-19. In addition, the book deals with topics such as cardiovascular risk diseases, physical rehabilitation in various sports, … in short, current issues treated with the greatest scientific rigor. The text does not only deal with the scientific-technical, because it is concerned with the human being, with his integral development, with his adaptation in the social context, with the risks he runs in his sports activity, with his readaptation, with his rehabilitation and of the professional or professionals who should or should deal with each case. Although the authors of the chapters are mostly professors and researchers at the María Cano University Foundation, the book achieves universality with authors who work in other educational institutions in Colombia and Mexico, or who work independently or in non-profit companies. educational.
