Academic Mission in Innovation and New Businesses in Panama

Students of Business Administration and Public Accounting, in face-to-face and virtual modalities, programs attached to the Faculty of Business Sciences of the María Cano University Foundation, are carrying out an academic mission in Panama City where they will be visiting companies in the commerce sector, logistics and tourism in order to strengthen their academic skills and implement new ideas in their fields of action that allow them to have an impact on society; For 6 days, between May 10 and 15, members of the university community will be able to get to know the city through its companies, cultural sites and gastronomy.
The new dynamics of global markets, the requirements that demand innovation and creativity capacities, as well as the need to strengthen the capacity for analysis of the environment, based on the understanding of international business models that generate value for different audiences, through of observation and experiential knowledge provided by the academic and business mission to Panama. This Mission consists of delving into the economic, social, political and cultural dynamics, in order to get the most out of the talks, talks, academic and business visits that are scheduled at the Institution, giving an orientation to the knowledge of innovation. and the new businesses in the HUB of the Americas. Additionally, the selected companies must comply with an intention marked by their business model, techniques and business sector to relate it to the academic program.
This experience is carried out through the immersion that the student does under a methodology of observation and comparison of the different business structures that they are faced with in Panama, being a reference for the changes that the pandemic brought in terms of transport dynamics, logistics and new businesses in light of the needs of the public.
Likewise, this proposal led by the Office of the Vice President for Outreach and Social Outreach has clear objectives that contribute to the growth, positioning and internationalization of the María Cano university community:
- Identify innovation and new business models as a method of strengthening the academic training of the participants.
- Strengthen the teaching, extension and research relationship of the academic processes of the Institution that results in the consolidation of the culture of innovation in the different audiences.
- Generate spaces for interaction with the dynamics of Central American innovation, alluding to economic, social, political and cultural elements of the Panamanian industry.
- To encourage in the participants the relevance of internationalization for their academic and professional processes that project the solution of problems and identification of opportunities in their contexts.
- Consolidate academic and business relationships with Panamanian organizations that reinforce the expansion dynamics of María Cano.
