World Pain Day in the city of Popayán

The students and advisers of the clinical practice of the Physiotherapy program of the Popayán campus are articulated with the commemoration of the World Pain Day, for which they developed the II Pain Management Symposium, in which different professionals participated. , among them doctors Nelson Palechor Obando, Alejandro López, Alejandro Castillo and Pablo Alberto López Arboleda; physiotherapists Diana María Rivera Rujana, María Cristina Pérez Hurtado and Mabel Fernanda Mayorga; as well as the speech therapist Claudia Lucia Alfaro. In this way, María Cano is committed to training and raising awareness so that pain relief is recognized as an integral part of the right to the best possible physical and mental health.
World Pain Day is commemorated every year with the aim of improving the quality of life of people who suffer from it at some point in their lives, while calling on the urgent need to find relief from suffering. suffered by people with diseases that cause pain. According to the latest statistics released by the World Health Organization, one in five people in the world suffer from moderate to severe chronic pain, and one in three cannot maintain an independent lifestyle. For its part, the International Association for the Study of Pain defines pain as an “unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage”. It is for this reason that, in the Charter of Human Rights of the United Nations, since 2000, it was established that “pain relief is a universal right of human beings”.
