International Stuttering Awareness Day
- 10 noviembre, 2022

Since 1998, every October 22 the World Stuttering Awareness Day is celebrated, formalized by the International Stuttering Association (ISA); with the support of the International Fluency Association (IFA) and the European League of Stuttering Associations. ISA’s goal is to change public attitudes and eliminate social discrimination towards people who stutter; promote self-esteem and opportunities for people who stutter to achieve goals and aspirations; contribute to community building and provide the opportunity to exchange ideas to strengthen the relationship between researchers, people who stutter, professionals and parents of children who stutter. (Michael Sugarman, s.f.).
Definition of stuttering: “Speech disorder that affects the communication process and is characterized by involuntary interruptions in the fluency of people’s speech. These interruptions in the fluidity of speech are accompanied by muscle tension in the face and neck, fear and stress and are the visible pressure of the interaction of certain organic, psychological and social factors that determine and guide the formation of a being, a doing and feeling with its own characteristics”. (Pedro Rodriguez, 2005).
