Social work in the city of Neiva

The María Cano University Foundation, in coordination with the Secretary of Social Development and Inclusion of the mayor’s office of the municipality of Neiva, developed the Physical Activity Fair «María Cano for a more active community», an event that was committed to promoting and raising awareness of the importance of carrying out physical activity for the population with disabilities and the elderly, with activities that promote recreation and community participation, through the demonstration of sports, artistic, cultural and communication activities, as well as spaces for dissemination of the importance of physical activity and communication as options to contribute to the benefit of their quality of life.
This program was carried out within the framework of the community project for healthy lifestyles and functionality in the elderly, in communes 3 and 10 led by Professor Diana Lucía Sinza, and the physical activity and inclusive sport program in communes 6 and 10 of that city, directed by Professor Sergio Alejandro Quijano Duarte. The work carried out was joined by the university community of the speech therapy program at the Neiva campus with a proposal for social projection to analyze the communication problems of the community, with the accompaniment of the professor Nury Consuelo González Segura, community practices of the program of physiotherapy with Professor Viviana Caicedo Delgado and there was permanent articulation with proposals from the municipal mayor’s office through the disability support approach with the leader Fabián Andrés Molano Vásquez and the logistics team of the program for the elderly.
The María Cano University Foundation, as a higher education institution, carries out actions based on projection and social extension, offering the possibility of taking the training project to the environment through articulation and interaction actions with the community to contribute to social and individual transformation and democratization. and social, local, regional and national equity.
