Until always respected Dr. Humberto Serna

With great sadness, the María Cano University Foundation reports the death of the great leader, professor, emeritus researcher, member of the Superior University Council and planning advisor, Dr. Humberto Serna Gómez. PhD in Law and Political Science from the University of Antioquia, as well as a Master’s in Educational Administration and Planning from Stanford University, California (USA); and Ed. D. in Planning and Social Policy from Harvard University. As a researcher, he has always worked in different lines, including strategic planning, organizational behavior and innovation, strategy and marketing, social impact businesses, corporate governance and family businesses. Professor of public and private universities of the national and international order and writer of an outstanding number of publications related to the business field. In addition to being an impeccable human being, a warm, close, familiar and very respectful man.
He was born in the municipality of El Santuario, in the eastern part of the department of Antioquia, a bachelor of the Colegio San José de Medellín; He dedicated his life to academia, he was director of Icfes, tenured professor at Universidad de los Andes, chosen as the best teacher of the year at the 2007 PORTAFOLIO Awards, emeritus researcher at Minciencias and counselor in multiple strategic planning processes in companies of recognized trajectory in Colombia and the world. His extensive knowledge on strategic planning, strategic redirection, change management, service management, reengineering, has been poured into dozens of Colombian and foreign universities and in consulting and counseling in these matters he focused them on accompanying companies and institutions such as Impsat, Ecopetrol, Corfinorte, Sena, Zenú, Pavco, Varta, Bank of the Republic, Bank of Costa Rica, Isagén. He was also the author of numerous successful publications.
At the María Cano University Foundation, he accompanied different and important projects since the beginning of the Institution in 1987 and was an active member of the Institution, visiting its spaces, conversing with students, professors, graduates and collaborators, guiding the actions with dedication and complete love to guarantee growth and consolidation at the Medellín, Cali, Neiva, Popayán and the Mariacanovirtual campus.
The María Cano University Foundation feels a great void with this unfortunate loss of a great professional, an excellent man, an impeccable academic and an admirable human being. Our condolences to his wife, his children, his grandchildren, his entire family and loved ones, wishing them strength in this difficult time. We will always remember and miss him.
