Psychosocial risk due to double presence in new forms of work organization
- 16 enero, 2024

The psychosocial risk factor due to double presence refers to the synchronous and simultaneous demands of the work environment and the domestic-family environment, which can often be incompatible with the activities of personal, family and social life (Moncada, et al. , 2005). It is characterized by two psychosocial components or dimensions, which are: the burden of housework and concern about housework (Alvarado, et al., 2012). This, combined with other intra-work psychosocial factors, can have repercussions on the health status of workers, triggering symptoms of stress; This being one of the main health problems faced by the working population in the world.
There are conditions that increase this risk factor, such as long work hours and workers’ lack of control over the day; In addition to this, it is also related to situations in which the need to respond to the demands of the family domestic work space and the demands of paid work falls on the same person, and is caused by the increase in workload, as well as the difficulty in responding to both demands simultaneously (Torres, et al., 2019).
In addition to the above, it is important to highlight that in recent years the world of work has undergone an accelerated transformation, characterized by the incorporation of technological mediation in the development of daily activities related to work. Beyond the fulfillment of job duties, it is common for workers to be asked to pay attention to information issued through instant messaging applications installed on their personal cell phones. The same trend is observed for communicative exchange at the family and social level, which implies that both inside and outside of work people must be attentive to the requirements that come through this medium, and due to the sense of urgency generated by the instant communication, they are urged to respond as soon as possible to requests received in this way, although not in all cases these are urgent requirements.
Based on the above, it has become necessary to recognize that both employment and domestic-family life generate demands that occur in an overlapping time. (Cubillos & Monrael, 2019). And since both dimensions constitute fundamental aspects of the vital development of human beings, it is important to implement actions that allow maintaining a balance between these two instances, seeking good time management habits and generating the necessary agreements to maintain effective communication in life. everyday. On the part of the organizations, the intervention measures that have been shown to be most effective are those that are aimed at enabling greater levels of autonomy on the part of the working population in the development of their functions (Pérez, 2022).
