Their technical and procedural skills enable them to carry out evaluation-diagnosis and treatment processes for communication disorders and oral-pharyngeal function disorders associated with health conditions and hospitalization, using advanced products and instrumentation. Likewise, they will provide counseling and consulting services in speech-language pathology and design and implement strategies for prevention and promotion of health and communicative well-being in these settings, incorporating research and management processes.
The specialist recognizes scientific evidence, interprofessional collaborative work, and the humanization of care as fundamental pillars of their practice, contributing to the quality of life and communicative well-being of individuals, groups, and populations.
Occupational profile
Graduates may work in the following areas:
-
Clinical Practice: In critical care units at any level (intensive, intermediate, chronic, palliative) across the life course (neonatal, pediatric, and adult populations). Their training enables them to develop humanization programs through communication, interaction strategies, and advisory and counseling processes for professionals and families within critical care units.
-
Research: The scientific training core provides tools to formulate and develop research projects that contribute to disciplinary and professional knowledge and generate evidence on speech-language pathology management in critical care units. It also enables teaching in Speech-Language Pathology faculties and programs, and related programs.
-
Administration and Management of Speech-Language Pathology Services in Critical Care: Graduates may undertake, lead, and innovate plans, programs, and projects aimed at transforming knowledge and improving the quality of speech-language pathology services in public and private institutions. They will also make sound technical, technological, scientific, and administrative decisions that promote individual and collective well-being in these settings.
Considering the above, the graduate profile responds to the nationally established competencies for specialists, across the areas and domains of the profession, recognizing the importance of their role in critical care units, the health conditions of individuals, scientific evidence, interprofessional collaborative work, and the humanization of care. Likewise, the program aligns with the vision of Fundación Universitaria María Cano, which promotes the training of entrepreneurial and innovative professionals; the quality of its programs and services; knowledge transfer for solving contextual problems and needs; participation in national and international knowledge and cooperation networks; and contribution to the development and transformation of people’s quality of life.
