The population with intellectual disability benefited from institutional research
- 14 enero, 2020

Phonoaudiology and Software Engineering programs, through their Fonotec research groups, in category B; and Grintec, category C, according to the results of the call number 833 of Colciencias, managed to register a software with the National Directorate of Copyright for the realization of the Test of Evaluation of Linguistic Behavior in population with intellectual disability – PECOL.
This great achievement in the scientific activity of María Cano constitutes an important social contribution, in accordance with the institutional DNA, which will allow us to provide an alternative to evaluate and diagnose the characteristics of language in people whose communication is affected due to a disability.
For professionals in speech therapy, this software is a validated and reliable tool that responds to a need related to the use of objective tests to evaluate language, and which also responds to the particular characteristics of the target population, allowing to develop a process of evaluation supported by technologies that boost its use and speed up the registration of user information in conjunction with the evaluator, which affects decision-making in the care process.
The Fonotec and Grintec research groups have worked on this project since 2016 with the direct contribution of researchers Adriana Marcela Rojas Gil, Amilbia Palacios Córdoba, Jorge Mario Gaviria Hincapié and Deivy Andrés Velasco Álvarez; who hope to continue developing these exercises that contribute to interdisciplinary work for the generation of new knowledge.
