Maria Cano University Foundation in the municipality of Piendamó, Cauca

Maria Cano’s Campus in Popayan seeks to strengthen inter-institutional alliances with different municipalities in the Department of Cauca, in the Southwestern Colombia. On this occasion, the directors in this region of the country visited the municipality of Piendamo, where they met the Secretary of Health, Mercy Alexandra Burbano Garcia and officials of the same institutions. They socialized the service portfolio and the new Specialization in Public Health, which seeks to influence the entire region by contributing to the professionals’ qualification who ensure welfare of the community.
A Public Health Specialist from The Maria Cano University Foundation will be responsible for evaluating the individual and collective health situation, as well as formulating, managing and implementing public health policies and public health interventions. It will be developed according to local, national and international jurisdiction from various SGSSS organizations and inter-sectorial actions in the family and social environment complementing curative efforts with a significant and growing number of actions to promote and maintain health.
Piendamo is a Colombian municipality located in the Department of Cauca, in the metropolitan area of Popayan. The municipality population is mainly divided between the municipal capital and Tunia County. Wednesdays, Fridays and especially Saturdays are market days, quite busy and visited by Guambiano Indians. Piendamo is also a stopover for those tourists who come from cities such as Cali or Popayan to Silvia site.
