This is a regional educational association founded in 2014 as a non-profit organization that is part of the International Writing Centers Association – IWCA. Its purpose is to establish an academic community to support writing centers and programs in 10 countries, in order to build knowledge and promote institutional links at the Latin American level. By being part of the Latin American Network of Writing Centers and Programs, LEAMOS begins to be part of a select group of initiatives, programs and centers attached to higher education institutions at the Latin American level, which share the concern for the importance of establishing an active and generative dialogue on writing practices at this educational level.

As an institutional member of the Latin American Network of Writing Centers and Programs, LEAMOS is involved with the purpose of promoting better writing production processes, through flow of experiences among the network members, while providing spaces for reflection that seek to impact regional educational policies. Among the most important benefits of belonging to the network is the possibility of sharing experiences, learning from them and promoting the consolidation of writing centres in the region. Moreover, LEAMOS is visible in the regional, national and international educational sphere, opening a space for dialogue with other institutions that share its interest, while at the same time promoting new research proposals that emerge from the reality of writing centers.

The Latin American Network of Writing Centers and Programs is for LEAMOS the opportunity to apprehend/learn about teaching processes and successful practices in the development of writing skills. Likewise, it is possible to build inter-institutional research proposals that show processes in execution, recognize results of executed proposals, as well as the diffusion of evaluation and measurement mechanisms implemented by partner institutions

Being part of the Latin American Network of Writing Centers and Programs represents for LEAMOS and for The Maria Cano University Foundation, the challenge of contributing to the academic community in the great deal of concern and care for academic reading and writing, about which it is our purpose to continue developing articulated axes of work that respond to institutional, regional, national and international demands, always oriented to favor the good practices of literacy, projecting to improve the quality of our students, teachers and professionals.
