Objetive:
The A1 Academic English Program at the Language Center of Fundación Universitaria María Cano aims to develop basic communicative skills in English for students, enabling them to understand and use everyday expressions, interact in simple situations, and communicate at a basic level in personal, academic, and social contexts.
The program is based on a communicative approach that promotes meaningful use of the language, fostering the development of comprehension, production, and interaction skills, as well as the formation of individuals with intercultural openness, critical thinking, and the ability to participate in diverse environments
Approval decree: Resolution N. 202450048974 of July 10, 2024 from the Education Secretary of the Special District of Science, Technology and Innovation of Medellín.
Inspection and supervision is executed by the Education Secretary of the Special District of Science, Technology and Innovation of Medellín.
Registration requirements: Candidate must be over 16 years old and be able to read and write. Also, it must hold a bachelor’s degree or at least have ninth grade approved.

Language skills
On this first level, the candidate does not need to have his/her language skills on the objective language, these skills will be acquired during the program.
Basic technological skills
To take part in the Academic Programs of English offered by the Language Center of Fundación Universitaria María Cano, whether in on-site or distance modality with a virtual education strategy, the student must use technological resources such as a computer, camera, microphone, and internet connection in order to interact with the virtual learning environments of the program.
Program duration: 160 hours (Level A1: 80 hours and Level A1+: 80 hours)
Direct work: 128 hours (A1: 64 hours + A1+: 64 hours)
Independent work: 32 hours of directed autonomous work. (A1: 16 hours and A1+: 16 hours)
• Labor skill certificate: Academic Knowledge Programs in English A1.
• Sessions: Morning or evening (Monday to Friday) and Saturday.
• Learning methodology: On-site or distance modality with a virtual education strategy (Medellín Branch)
• Program cost: $1.814.802 (total cost for 2026 María Cano Medellín branch)
The graduate of the A1 Academic English Program at the Language Center of Fundación Universitaria María Cano will achieve an A1 level of proficiency in communicative competence, in accordance with the standards of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
At this level, the student is able to understand and use very frequent everyday expressions, as well as simple phrases aimed at meeting immediate needs. They can introduce themselves and others, and ask for and provide basic personal information about their address, belongings, and the people they know.
Additionally, they can interact in a simple way, provided that the other person speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to cooperate.

Admission requirements:
To enter the Academic Knowledge Programs in English offered by María Cano, the applicant must complete the following procedure:
– Original study certificate of ninth grade or bachelor’s degree diploma (11th grade), issued by the school with validity of no more than one month.
– A legible photocopy of the ID (enlarged).
– A 3X4 cms. size photo, light blue background.
