The article «The work in inclusive education of a group of Colombian speech therapists», written by Professor Jhon Fredy Quintero Uribe from the speech therapy program, was published in the specialized magazine Areté. The text reflects how this professional has found new performance areas in Colombia, one of them in inclusive education, so it is necessary to know work experiences in it.
The research was carried out from a qualitative approach, exploratory level and field work design through semi-structured interview through virtual means. 17 speech therapists from different regions of the country, mostly female, were interviewed. Many of them with postgraduate training in areas related to education; and as a result it reflects that the speech therapists interviewed were mostly linked to the education field, although some of them also to the health and welfare fields, from which they consider they contribute to inclusive education. They develop their work through a process of admission-valuation, work plan-curricular adjustments, indirect intervention with advice and direct intervention with the school in and outside the classroom. Teaching and administrative activities were also found.
The magazine Areté is an interdisciplinary scientific publication, oriented to the dissemination of knowledge related to research in the processes of human communication, its disorders and higher aerodigestive functions, in various scenarios and populations. It’s released twice a year resulting in two annual issues, in response to the interest of the academic community in order to assume new challenges contributing to strengthen speech therapy and is aimed at professionals, teachers and researchers at national and international level interested in topics related to human communication, its disorders and related areas.
