The Language Center

The language center of Maria Cano University Foundation is created as response to the global need regarding the acquisition of competences in a foreign language, aiming at an ideal performance at a social, political, economic, cultural and personal level of our students. This initiative is led and operated by the institution´s Language Center, which is part of the International Relations office, given the relevance of bilingualism and intercultural exchange established in the policy of internationalization, accord 057, 2017.

Consequently, our labor strives for an integral formation in relation to the different levels of competence according to the Common European Framework, referenced for language teaching, learning and assessment. This endeavor fosters processes of English teaching and learning as a second language, through a communicative methodology aligned to international standards. Thus, facilitating educational spaces with the highest quality for all our student community. Currently, the language center offers two formation alternatives.

Global Framework

It is increasingly known that the knowledge of only one language is not sufficient to cope and perform in a competitive environment. In which communication and information are key for achieving success. Therefore, we offer English as a foreign language as an answer to the global need for an integral and competitive professional.

From a specific standpoint, we intend on our students to conceive our courses as a communication tool, that is, fundamentally practical knowledge whose primary goal is the use of the language. For such purpose we intend to embrace the following communicative needs:

  • Empowering students to cope with daily life situations.
  • Learning to exchange information through the different communication channels, whether orally or in a written manner.
  • Reaching a deep comprehension of the culture, way of life and thinking of the countries whose language is our students´ course of study.

For such purpose, we demand from our students´ a participative and committed attitude with their own learning process. They should be willing to put to practice self-learning and self-assessment techniques that will be fostered from the classroom. Our professors impart their knowledge, but also how it is learned. Given that, a language is a set of skills that are not acquired in the same manner as for other fields of study. Practicing and involving actively in the process is necessary for the student to have success in the challenge that implies learning a new language. The satisfaction granted by this is guaranteed.
