- 4 marzo, 2020

We want to highlight the effort, dedication and commitment of Cristhian David Valencia Cucuyame, a Physiotherapy program student at Popayan Campus, who is on an academic exchange program in Valencia, Spain. He participated in the Autonomous University Sports Championship (CADU, by its acronym in Spanish) on behalf of the Universidad Catolica de Valencia. His presentation was in the modality of karate-do, with category (open) in – 75 kilograms, getting the first place and obtaining the gold medal at the level of the Valencian community «GENERALITAT VALENCIANA».
This is an excellent example of the capacity of work, discipline and constancy in the sport practice to take the name of The Maria Cano University Foundation to other countries and leave the reputation of the entire university community in a high level. In this way we put his success and his great competition to succeed in a sport practice that he is passionate about and that is part of his professional, human and spiritual formation.
Karate-do is a traditional martial art of Okinawan origin, also called Karate or Kárate. The person who practices this martial art is called Karateka or Karateca; it is characterized by the use of punches and kicks, although it is not limited only to them. «Karate-do» is a martial art in which strength (ki), breathing, balance and posture are coordinated, the correct rotation of hips and joint connection of muscles and extremities, transferring a large part of the body weight and the center of gravity to the impact. Generally, the aim is to defeat the opponent with a single forceful impact. This is similar to the lunge or cut of a Japanese katana or sabre.
The Maria Cano congratulates Cristhian for his great constancy and shows him as an example to all the members of the Institution.
