CNA visit begins for Speech Therapy accreditation
- 27 octubre, 2021

The María Cano University Foundation receives academic peers Sulay Rocío Echeverry Mejía and Andrea Guevara Agredo. From their resumes, it should be noted that Professor Echeverry Mejía has a Doctorate in Education from the University of Salamanca; Master’s in Education and Community Development from the Surcolombiana University and she is a Speech Therapist from the Catholic University of Manizales. For her part, Professor Guevara Agredo has a Master’s degree in Child Development from the University of Manizales; Specialist in University Teaching at the Cooperative University of Colombia and is a Speech Therapist at the Catholic University of Manizales.
In this regard, the rector Hugo Alberto Valencia Porras indicates: «The visit of the peers of the National Accreditation Council – CNA begins to seek high quality accreditation of the undergraduate program in Speech Therapy at the Medellín campus. This is the best opportunity we have to confirm, before representatives of the higher education system, who are highly qualified professors and researchers from other universities, the commitment of María Cano to offer very high quality education, and to be able to advance in being the first undergraduate degree in speech therapy in Antioquia that achieves this recognition.
Institutionally we have been working hard to support quality in all María Cano programs. In recent weeks we have also had visits for the accreditation of Physiotherapy and Business Administration, and I am sure that «Fono» will have an equal or better performance, which received very positive comments from academic peers.
Today is a historic date for the program, as it is not only the moment in which we will rigorously demonstrate the consistency between the training project, the commitment of the teachers and the accompaniment of our students and graduates throughout the training process, but also We will open the door for the Speech Therapy brothers in the other venues, where the program is born, to be filled with confidence to continue the process.
I know that getting here has not been quick or easy; I am also aware that there are still aspects in which we must work more, and thanks to you we will achieve it. I am sure that this visit will bring us, in addition to enormous experiences and learnings, very positive news.
The result of this visit will take several weeks, or months. Only until then will we know if we can be accredited in this first effort, but the mere fact of having reached this point, after the advisers of the ANC validated our institutional conditions, and we have advanced the self-evaluation process, should fill us with pride and complacency.
From now on I want to thank all of you for what you have done to attend the visit as it should be, showing the reality of who we are, with humility and desire to continue growing, with the best disposition to receive suggestions and show that our motivation to do things In the best possible way, as we believe, it is based on the spirit of service, with affection and quality, of María Cano and of those who dedicate their lives to a program such as Speech Therapy.
With the rigor that this visit deserves, but with the happiness that comes with dressing up to be evaluated and learning from it, I wish you the best in this experience.
With my gratitude to all of you, also for believing in your Institution».
