In compliance with Law 1831 of 2017, which establishes the mandatory provision, provision and access to Automatic External Defibrillators (AED). The María Cano University Foundation has acquired for the different locations in Medellín, Cali, Neiva and Popayán. These teams save lives in the event of an emergency case with a member of the university community, because they are used to revive someone when a sudden cardiac arrest occurs. These situations occur when there is an interruption of activity, generating diagnoses such as ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation.
Law 1831 is intended to guarantee access to Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) in out-of-hospital environments, care transport and spaces with a high influx of public, such as the following:
- Basic care transport, public and private, by land, river, sea and air.
- National and international land, sea, river and air transport terminals.
- Sports venues, both public and private.
- Public entities such as governorates, departmental assemblies, councils, ministries, administrative departments, military and police garrisons, and national, departmental and district public service centers.
- Prisons and penitentiary or detention centers of a national, municipal or district order.
- The Presidency of the Republic, the Congress of the Republic, Palace of Justice (High Courts), Public Ministry, Attorney General’s Office, and judicial complexes such as courts and tribunals.
- Cultural and recreational settings, both public, private or of a mixed nature.
- Rehabilitation centers, mental health or temporary confinement.
- Public and private universities.
- Public, private or concession schools.
- Mixed-use properties, such as business centers and residential and commercial units of more than one hundred units.
- Commands of the National Police of Colombia and in the Immediate Attention Centers (CAl).
- Indigenous reservations.
It is important that all members of the university community, at the venues, are aware of the existence of these teams, the location and way of accessing the AEDs within the institution and, if required, who they should go to. through the guidelines of the occupational health and safety area.
