District recognition of the University in Motion initiative
- 5 diciembre, 2023

The Neurorehabilitation and Social Inclusion hotbed of the Physiotherapy program of the María Cano University Foundation participated in the «Healthy Universities» Program of the Ministry of Health of Medellín. The work carried out was developed in coordination with the Institutional Welfare Health Coordination, focused on health care and promotion, as well as disease prevention in the university setting. Particularly in the initiative, health education actions, practices related to healthy lifestyles and reflections on functioning, disability and health were implemented during the month of November, with 934 participations by the university community. It is for this reason that the initiative was chosen among the four best at the district level, where 26 other initiatives corresponding to different Higher Education Institutions in the city also participated.
Thanks to the actions, the efforts of the professionals and the impact of the care, recognition was received for the institutional initiative called: «University in Motion» led by teacher Jhon Freddy Santos Gómez, assigned to the Physiotherapy program, belonging to the group Fisioter, categorized in A before the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The revitalization of healthy habits and lifestyles was diverse, involving different capacities and abilities of the population, as well as cultural repertoires, particularities and potentialities in the educational institution. Among the main results, reflection emerged on the importance of a healthy institution, as well as the practices embodied by the different actors of the university community; Here, elements regarding the configuration and appropriation of spaces stand out, as well as the construction of salutogenic logics from singular, group and territorial dimensions.
Additionally, the importance of inter-institutional articulation with territorial entities for the promotion of health is highlighted, in accordance with the missionary processes developed in the María Cano University Foundation. The university-society connection is key from training and research, opening doors for network operation and the materialization of primary health care. Finally, functioning, disability and health were consolidated as important categories to promote interactions in the institution with a view to social inclusion.
The learning obtained by the participants were:
- Clarity about myths and realities in healthy lifestyle habits.
- Information about health research and possibilities for participation.
- Channeling towards institutional routes for student well-being.
- Information on the offer of health services in the city.
- Elements for the appropriation of healthy spaces in the institution.
Likewise, it is important to highlight the achievements and learnings of María Cano’s seedbed:
- Articulation with territorial entities for health promotion in the university environment.
- Diversification of strategies for social participation in health in the institution.
- Strengthening the Neurorehabilitation and Social Inclusion Seedbed, as well as visibility in the institution.
- Positioning of the Neurorehabilitation and Social Inclusion Seedbed as a strategic actor for the revitalization of intersectoral and interinstitutional health actions in the city.
Congratulations to the members of the Neurorehabilitation and Social Inclusion hotbed for their contribution to the well-being of the entire community, as well as their constant effort and commitment to position the work led by the Institution.
