Excellent news for the investigation #MásMaríaCano

The María Cano University Foundation was notified from the «National Call to promote patent protection of R&D&i results that promote the economic empowerment of the business sector – Creating it is not enough», which ensures the national protection of patents of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation; operated by Tecnova, from the benefit for the protection of the invention called «Walker for children with infantile cerebral palsy», a work presented jointly with the EAFIT University and which had the scientific and technological support of the line of engineering and design of the SENA Technopark.
This call will allow receiving specialized training and a budget of ten million pesos for the procedures to protect the invention through the registration of a patent, within the framework of industrial property rights, a branch of intellectual property, before the Superintendency of Industry and Trade. It thus becomes the third patent for the María Cano, the result of the functional prototype design project for children with PCI (Infant Cerebral Palsy), which facilitates mobility through emotional connection and allows the measurement of energy expenditure, consolidating the Institution in the privileged group of Higher Education Institutions of Colombia, holders of patent registrations.
It is important to bear in mind that patents are a powerful indicator with which the development of countries is measured and, in this case, it is a technological product with great social impact. This is yet another achievement of the María Cano Physioter Research Group, the Grid group of the Eafit University and the Gigat del Sena Group; that praises the work of researchers Fanny Valencia Legarda, Elizabeth Rendón Vélez, Camilo Andrés Páramo and Valentina Mejía, who stand out for their commitment to collaborative, interdisciplinary and inter-institutional research work.
On its website, the Minciencias highlights, about the program: «The initiative of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation in agreement with the Tecnnova UEE Corporation, on behalf of JOINN – Colombian Network of OTRI, supports the presentation of national applications before the office Colombia the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC), through the National Protection of Patents Additionally, and in order to continue in the line of protection as needed for the management of the patent, this call supports some inventions in the presentation of international applications , making use of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT)».
