In celebrating World Physical Activity Day, through various activities, it seeks to promote movement to improve health at all ages and in different environments. The activity was born during the 54th World Health Assembly in 2002, where it was established that from then on World Health Day would have as its theme the promotion of physical activity and would be promoted as a permanent event of the World Organization. of Health – WHO.
This is how the Physiotherapy program of the Medellín-based María Cano University Foundation led the first academic meeting on physical activity in cooperation with the CES University and the Autonomous University of Manizales, which took place on April 28 as part of the celebration of the world day of physical activity, where the focus was aimed at raising awareness about physical activity as an efficient tool to optimize the processes related to the reduction of risk factors associated with a sedentary lifestyle, with the aim of having an impact on non-chronic diseases. transferable and transferable.
The event had the participation of international speakers, the Mexican graduates in Physical Therapy: Erika Sibaja Galindo and Karla Velasco Ruiz and with national speakers: the physiotherapist Felipe Monsalve Vélez, professor of the Physiotherapy program at the CES University; Dr. José Armando Vidarte Claros, physical educator and professor of the Physiotherapy program at the Autonomous University of Manizales; the graduate of the Physiotherapy program of María Cano, Medellín campus, Daniel Morales Ortega and the teacher of the María Cano program, Silvia Patricia Betancur Bedoya. This academic work was aimed at teachers, graduates and students of the participating programs and was attended by almost 200 people.
The positive evidence between physical activity and the results in health and quality of life, in addition to all the visibility achieved worldwide in times of pandemic and post-pandemic, confirm physical activity as a factor that favors longevity and quality of life, highlighting that with the reduction of risk factors, such as cigarette consumption, alcohol consumption, sedentary lifestyle and the inclusion of protective factors such as a healthy diet and the regular practice of physical activity, they make up a global strategy for the prevention and disease and health promotion.
