Forward Psychology towards accreditation
- 18 abril, 2022

We prepare ourselves, as a large university community, for this new appointment with quality and institutional commitment. The visit of academic peers from the National Accreditation Council – CNA is carried out for three days. They hold scheduled meetings with all members of the university community, and sometimes freely, at any time or place in the Institution, they dialogue with students, professors and administrative support staff.
The attitudes they see and the comments they receive are decisive for them to have a good concept of the Psychology program and, of course, of María Cano.
These are 10 recommendations so that colleagues, teachers, directors and yourself, feel proud of the participation in this visit of the peers:
- Keep in mind if you are called to a meeting, what the agenda is or how the visit will be, and ask what role the Program expects from you.
- Think about the impact of what you are going to say because you are María Cano. Regardless of your experiences with the Institution, your opinions will influence the evaluation that peers make of the entire university community.
- Speak naturally. Say what you think and how they are, taking care of the tone, and without exaggerating. Neither destructive criticism nor exaggerated praise.
- Express yourself honestly. At María Cano we do not hide anything. If we talk about a topic in which there is no answer, we have presented failures or we are missing things, we simply say so and that’s it. Transparency and the desire to learn and improve are more important, we are always committed to evaluating ourselves and moving forward.
- Listen carefully. Before responding to any questions or comments, make sure you have fully understood them. Try to answer only what is asked of you.
- Dialogue, never argue. If you don’t like or agree with what a peer is saying, present your arguments with respect and calm. It is an academic dialogue, not a negotiation to convince or overcome the other.
- Please rate carefully. Receive all the comments, criticisms, observations and suggestions from your peers, and think about what they can contribute and teach you.
- Gives a respectful and friendly treatment to peers. Address them in the same way as the rector and directors will.
- Do not expect pressure or ask peers to make value judgments about a topic or, in general, about the program or the Institution. They may or may not comment, and are not required to do so.
- Be patient. At the end of the visit we will not know if we will have the accreditation or not, regardless of the comments of the peers. They must write a report, which must be contrasted and analyzed by the National Accreditation Council and the Ministry of Education, and that takes weeks (even months). At the end of the academic year with the CNA, the Institution’s work and commitment to quality will continue to be the same or greater than ever.
Thank you for the commitment, support, support and being part of this important moment that María Cano and her Psychology program are experiencing; We deeply value the accompaniment you provide us and the transparency at all times.
We are Accreditation… We are #MásMaríaCano
