The Fundación Universitaria María Cano Medellín stood out as a key ally of the Mayor’s Office of Medellín during the Medellín for All Festival 2025, particularly through its participation in the closing event, The Great Night of Women. The university was represented by Rector Hugo Alberto Valencia Porras and Vice-Rector for Extension and Social Outreach, Paola Rueda López, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to education, recognition, and visibility for talented women in Medellín.
A Day of Impact and Recognition
More than 8,000 women took part in this free and public event organized by the Medellín Secretariat for Women, which brought together in one place employment opportunities, training sessions, health and wellness activities, cultural spaces, entrepreneurship initiatives, and awards for women across 14 categories.
During The Great Night of Women, 14 female leaders from across the city were honored for their transformative contributions.
María Cano Scholarship: A Tribute to Female Talent
As part of the event, FUMC awarded the “María Cano Scholarship” to María Alejandra Vélez Clavijo, a Mathematical Engineer who achieved the highest score in the first stage of the Mujeres Talento (Talented Women) program. She was also among the 70 women who received training in pitching and strategic communication provided by the university.
Toward a City of Equality
The Medellín for All Festival marked a milestone in participation and social impact. According to official reports, this year’s edition offered over 5,000 job vacancies, connecting women across the city to new opportunities.
The collaboration between María Cano and the Mayor’s Office of Medellín demonstrates how higher education institutions and public entities can join forces to strengthen women’s leadership and open pathways to economic autonomy, well-being, and social participation.
