Graduate who works for Afro-descendants in Antioquia

The María Cano University Foundation is proud of the work led by the graduate of the Physiotherapy program, from the Medellín campus, María Teresa Puerta Muñoz, who leads the Afro-descendants Management of the Antioquia Governor’s Office, in the government of Aníbal Gaviria Correa. She has had an outstanding resume of service to the community and constant work for the well-being of the inhabitants of the department and the city of Medellín, being general coordinator of the Family Modality project of the Buen Comienzo program, operated by Metrosalud, and contributing her knowledge and experience for the development of the 6,000 Families Live Better Plan of the Mayor’s Office of Envigado, in the south of Valle de Aburrá.
In addition to his undergraduate degree, he has been professionally prepared with a specialization in Public Health Management from the CES University and a diploma in Neuro-education and Early Childhood with the Mayor’s Office of Medellín. His work in the department of Antioquia has been focused on the claim and recognition of the contribution of Afro Antioquian communities to the development of the region and the country. In the same way, recognize the population diversity that inhabits the department under the idea «Antioquia is an Afro territory» and work on the issue of self-recognition and racial discrimination.
In the recent meeting with the Office of the Extension and Social Projection of María Cano, led by Carlos Julio Escobar Noreña, the following topics were discussed: seeking the creation of economic options for Afro communities in access to higher education, such as scholarships and subsidies; an articulation was agreed for the joint commemoration of Afro-Colombianity, the realization of company-State-School work to benefit the Afro communities of the department with the academic offer of María Cano and the accompaniment of the management of Afro-descendants to Institutional Welfare for the students from the Afro-descendant community in all locations nationwide.
