Headquarters #MásMaríaCano work for research

The Neiva headquarters of the María Cano University Foundation, from the Physiotherapy program, promotes research in a dynamic way, according to the trends and needs of the region through the generation and transfer of new knowledge, as a result of the activities and projects research contributing to visibility, relationship and inter-institutional and inter-sector articulated work. Researchers Piedad Rocío Lerma Castaño, Diana Paola Montealegre Suárez, Elizabeth Roldán González, members of the Fisioter research group, in the cities of Neiva and the Popayán campus, worked collaboratively with researchers Carolina Robledo Castro, from the University of Tolima and Christian Hederich Martínez of the Pedagogical University of Colombia, for the publication of the article called: «Effects of physical exercise on gross motor skills in children with autism spectrum disorder»; this work is the result of a research project was published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders categorized in Q1 Scimago Journal.
In this publication, the impact of a structured physical exercise program, compared with usual treatment, on the gross motor skills of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) was examined. It had the participation of 20 children, from 4 to 7 years old, who were assigned to two groups; an experimental group (n = 10) that received a structured physical exercise program during 60-minute sessions, three times a week for eight weeks, and a control group (n = 10) that received conventional physiotherapy.
In this way, the María Cano University Foundation continues with its commitment to put knowledge at the service of society, to generate well-being and quality of life for different population groups, especially those who need constant support and motivation.
