The María Cano University Foundation in the city of Neiva carries out social outreach to the vulnerable population of commune 3 of the capital of the department of Huila, an area where the institution is present, with the slogan «United for a healthier community». On this occasion, health and prevention actions were carried out with the elderly population and the child population, offering services such as visual, auditory, cardiovascular screening, oral hygiene, general medicine, assessment of growth and development, vaccination, enhancement of motor skills for children, evaluation of the functionality of the elderly, promotion and maintenance of health. In the same way, the students, professors and researchers present in this space donated hygiene kits for oral care and markets to the vulnerable population, in addition to the cultural participation and commitment of the city’s Metropolitan Police.

The relationship of the university community with the external sector, has allowed the development of a work of support and accompaniment to the community, where the union of forces and wills for social projection, has achieved the linking of institutions that are also concerned with the community, such as the Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro of commune 3, the ESE Carmen Emilia Ospina, the Antonio Nariño University, the National Police and students who, from the classrooms, receive important awareness of the need to put the knowledge acquired for those most in need.

The María Cano University Foundation is social commitment, responsibility, support for vulnerable society and, above all, responsibility, in accordance with the institutional principles that reflect the thought of María de los Ángeles Cano Márquez, which is the DNA that is present in all the actuate.
