Huila joins national project to combat infectious diseases

A technical roundtable was held by the Government of Huila to present the project titled «Strengthening with a Multidisciplinary and Integrative Approach from Basic Sciences in the Study of Infectious Diseases in Colombia: A Model with Dengue and Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI)», an initiative led by Universidad Simón Bolívar in alliance with the María Cano University Foundation, Neiva campus. The project aims to generate scientific knowledge and effective strategies to address these diseases in prioritized departments such as Atlántico, Guaviare, Huila, Cauca, and Norte de Santander.
The meeting brought together key regional actors, including Dr. Juan Carlos Ramón Rueda, Chief of Staff of the Huila Government; the Departmental Secretary of Health; the Director of the Public Health Laboratory; the Manager of the Hernando Moncaleano Perdomo University Hospital; and the Director of the María Cano Neiva campus. Attendees discussed the project’s objectives, its scope, and the anticipated impact on public health in the region.
The session was led by Lina María López, Head of Royalties, who emphasized the relevance of the initiative for strengthening local capacities in surveillance, prevention, and management of infectious diseases. This inter-institutional collaboration reaffirms the María Cano University Foundation’s commitment to scientific development and the health of communities in the Huila region.
