Impact with the publication of an article from the Cali headquarters
- 10 febrero, 2023

The Spanish magazine Retos Nuevas Tendencias en Educación Física Deportes y Recreación, in volume number 43 of January 2, 2023, published the article entitled: «Relationship between the level of physical activity and academic performance in students of a university institution. Study multicentric», the research was carried out by professors Wilson González Marmolejo and Julián David Cerón Bedoya, from the physiotherapy program of the María Cano University Foundation at the Cali campus. This study was carried out at the Institution’s headquarters, obtaining as representative results that women perform more physical activity of light intensity while men perform more physical activity of moderate intensity.
Students belonging to low socioeconomic strata have a mild level of physical activity, while students belonging to the middle or upper strata tend to have, for the most part, a moderate level of physical activity. It was also found that having a level of moderate or vigorous physical activity doubles the possibility that a student will obtain an academic average higher than 3.7 (on a scale of 0 – 5) and as a conclusion it is evident that there is a positive relationship between the level of physical activity and academic performance, reflecting the need to make students aware of the importance of physical activity.
This work, which demonstrates the capacity and commitment of high-impact researchers at María Cano, directly contributes to health care and the well-being of the internal and external community, which ratifies the Institution’s social projection.
