In Popayán we care about mental health
- 13 octubre, 2023

The students of the Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy programs of the María Cano University Foundation at the headquarters in the capital of the department of Cauca, shared their role in health sciences with the mental health care of the university community, participating in a awareness day, called: «Mental health, my right.» Throughout the activity, spaces were available with information on health care, factors that are important for the balance of the mind. During the tour, dynamic talks were offered where students and administrators had active participation as well as a space for meditation in the university wellness room.
It is important to highlight that the students, teachers, collaborators, graduates, researchers and visitors to the Institution were able to feel the importance of mental health care, the need for dialogue to be able to express what is felt in the soul and heart. , while raising awareness about the need to listen to others so that they can tell what happens to them and help create networks of support and support to move forward, not only in the personal field, but also in the family, in the social, in the professional and in the community. A work that is based on the social commitment that exalts the actions of María Cano.
For this community well-being care activity, María Cano and its directors in Popayán were based on what was stated by the World Health Organization: «Mental health is more than the mere absence of mental disorders. It occurs in a process complex, which each person experiences differently, with varying degrees of difficulty and distress and social and clinical outcomes that can be very different. Mental health conditions include mental disorders and psychosocial disabilities, as well as other mental states associated with high degree of distress, functional disability or risk of self-harming behavior. People who suffer from them are more likely to experience lower levels of mental well-being, although this is not necessarily always the case.»
The María Cano University Foundation will always remain committed to the care and protection of all the inhabitants of Colombia.
