In the Council of Medellín we talk about mental health in the city

The professors of the María Cano Psychology program, Ana Milena Gaviria Gómez and Alexander Arango Giraldo, were invited by the Medellín councilor John Jaime Moncada, to the session of the Council of the Antioquia capital to work on a fundamental issue for the well-being of all the community and that has generated an impact in recent years: Suicide. The program, attached to the Faculty of Health Sciences, was present at the appointment through a complete intervention on this subject with an expert look, which seeks to address the problem at the city level.
Dr. Ana Milena Gaviria Gómez has extensive research experience on issues related to severe mental disorder, normal and pathological aging, research methodology and data analysis in behavioral sciences, her intervention was on the epidemiological issue of mental health and importance of putting suicide and mental health care on the public agenda. For his part, Professor Alexander Arango Giraldo, with a great academic and professional career, has focused on the field of clinical psychology, psychosocial interventions, mental health, health promotion and disease prevention, showed which It is the situation of the young people of the city who consult through the lines of the Ministry of Youth and as an alliance between the municipal government and higher education institutions, impacting mental health and suicide prevention.
This intervention allowed the teachers to follow a topic of vital importance in the city and that is part of the agenda of the Municipal Council, also giving a sample of the quality, importance and constant relevance of the Psychology program. Councilor John Jaime Moncada Ospina, who extended the invitation to the María Cano University Foundation, has been a promoter of debates and projects for the study of strategies for the prevention of suicide and mental illnesses in the city, which has become a fundamental contribution to achieve the integral health of the population of the city of Medellín.
