- 1 agosto, 2022

The María Cano University Foundation is a faithful representative of the policies of inclusion and accompaniment to the entire community with academic programs, projects, proposals in the Development Plan and work on the strategic plans that allow reaching the entire population in the country. This is how it joins the company Almacenes Flamingo with an academic proposal that will allow training 25 workers and their leaders in inclusive forms of communication and assertiveness, through the «Colombian Sign Language» course, in order to facilitate interaction processes with the community, learning vocabulary and expressions, taking into account that this type of communication is characterized by being visual and bodily, which means that it is generated with different actions in a given space.
It is important to keep in mind that Colombian sign language is an inclusive, respectful means of interaction that dignifies the entire population and recognizes the importance of all members of the population in the country and in the world; Law 324 of 1996 in its second article states that: «The Colombian State recognizes sign language as belonging to the country’s deaf community»; and this is how María Cano joins in a determined way to support this work that responds to its fundamental principles of respect, equity, excellence, leadership, transparency and responsibility.
From the Office of the Vice President for Outreach and Social Projection, face-to-face sessions were organized in the Continuous Training line, with total immersion in the practice of Colombian sign language, always keeping in mind the importance of expressions that respond to the country’s culture, due to because sign language is not universal and there are so many that respond to the number of groups or communities of deaf people in the nations of the planet, so it differs from country to country.
The Faculty of Health Sciences and the Speech Therapy program developed the design and projected the development of the program to enhance the communicative skills in Colombian sign language of each participant, facilitating interaction in various work, professional and academic settings. The María Cano University Foundation thus fulfills its mission of articulating teaching and the interaction of knowledge with the current environment, developing new programs that promote social responsibility and the identification of scenarios that contribute positively to sustainable development at the national level.
A special acknowledgment from María Cano to Almacenes Flamingo for its concern for inclusion and the generation of communicative practices that generate well-being for all members of the community.
