Within the framework of the physical activity and inclusive sports program carried out by the María Cano University Foundation in the capital of the department of Huila, with the leadership of teacher Sergio Alejandro Quijano Duarte, the programming for the second semester began, where positively impact and generate well-being to the community that lives and works in communes 10 and 6 of the city of Neiva. On this occasion, the Institution’s physiotherapy students, who are doing their internship at level I, carried out an anthropometric nutritional evaluation with the purpose of detecting problems such as overweight, obesity, and underweight; characteristics that will allow adjusting the exercise prescription to the personal needs of each inhabitant of this important area of the country.
The participants, especially the caregivers of people with disabilities, had the opportunity to receive a talk related to the prevention of obesity and overweight, healthy habits and lifestyles, all related to the practice of physical activity as a way of caring for health and having a quiet space to care for the comprehensive, physical and emotional well-being of people. These educational elements allow the participating population to recognize the importance of physical exercise to advance in the path of life.
Finally, the students developed physical and recreational activities with the purpose of providing people with disabilities and their caregivers, training that allows them to access sports, physical activity and recreational practices, which are adjusted to their true conditions and needs, to be accessible and inclusive. The María Cano University Foundation will continue promoting healthy lifestyles and habits, contributing to strengthening the health and self-esteem of the community, where future professionals share their knowledge with the population and thus generate an impact on society.
