The Superior Council of María Cano gave the recognition «Life and Work» to the outgoing rector of the EAFIT University, Juan Luis Mejía Arango, for his work and dedication to the education and culture of Colombia, a way of exalting through the Award María Cano the actions of a man who has been an example for the country. The delivery of the María Cano Award is carried out thanks to the initiative of the directors of the María Cano University Foundation: the Superior Council, the rector Hugo Alberto Valencia Porras and his work team.

The “María Cano Award” was born as a tribute to the people and institutions that publicly demonstrate their professional performance, their actions as a synonym of chivalry, commitment to the community, respect for the norm, constant work for equality and continuous concern for the well-being of those around them. Similarly, this recognition is based on 6 fundamental principles that represented the actions of María de los Ángeles Cano Márquez and, of course, of the María Cano University Foundation, at its headquarters in Medellín, Cali, Neiva, Popayán and the Mariacanovirtual campus, where more than 16 thousand graduates are its main letter of introduction; These principles are Respect, Equity, Excellence, Leadership, Transparency and Responsibility.

On this occasion, it is delivered in the Life and Work category with a clear objective: It shows the great admiration for the work of Dr. Juan Luis Mejía Arango. The event chaired by the counselor Ligia González Betancur, representing all the founders, praised the work at the service of society.
