María Cano and City Hall united for the community
- 25 agosto, 2025

The María Cano University Foundation, Popayán campus, reaffirms its commitment to the well-being of the community by strengthening a strategic alliance with the Popayán City Hall, currently led by Mayor Juan Carlos Muñoz Bravo. This collaboration, which has been successfully maintained for several years, continues to advance the development of large-scale sports activities that promote health care and improved quality of life in the capital of Cauca.
This inter-institutional effort has been key in positioning physical activity, sports, and recreation as fundamental pillars for a healthy and active lifestyle. Moreover, it has enabled María Cano students and faculty to directly participate in academic and social outreach spaces, contributing their knowledge for the benefit of the community.
The coordinated management between both institutions has not only had a positive impact on the health of the people of Popayán but has also created experiential learning opportunities for future professionals. From an integrative perspective, this alliance represents a model of cooperation in which sports play not only a preventive role in health but also a social and educational one.
“We wholeheartedly renew our commitment to this joint effort. We firmly believe that promoting healthy lifestyles and creating community engagement spaces through sports is an effective way to build a more cohesive society with better opportunities for all,” stated a spokesperson from the María Cano University Foundation.
Through initiatives like this, the city of Popayán positions itself as a territory committed to human development and the holistic well-being of its people, showing that the union between academia and public administration is key to transforming realities and generating sustainable impact over time.
