María Cano at the Medellín Marathon 2025
- 8 septiembre, 2025

The Medellín Marathon 2025 received valuable health support thanks to the participation of Fundación Universitaria María Cano, which joined the event through its students from the Physiotherapy program and the María Cano IPS. The trainee professionals assisted in the recovery processes of the runners who took part in the 10K, 21K, and 42K categories, the latter designed for the most experienced athletes in this emblematic competition that has now been held for over 30 years in the “city of the mountain.”
The role of the physiotherapist in high-performance sporting events such as this marathon is essential to ensure the physical well-being of the participants. The students and professionals from Fundación María Cano provided preventive and rehabilitative care, applying specialized techniques to avoid common running injuries such as tendinitis, muscle strains, cramps, or joint overloads.
Additionally, they supported the runners during the post-race phases, facilitating optimal recovery through manual therapies, stretching, and personalized recommendations to protect muscles and improve mobility. This support not only helps athletes continue training and competing without interruptions but also promotes healthy habits and a better understanding of body care within the sports community.
For the physiotherapy students, this participation represents valuable practical experience that complements their academic training and brings them closer to the reality of professional practice in sports and high physical demand contexts. Likewise, Fundación Universitaria María Cano reaffirms its commitment to public health and sports in Medellín by supporting the organization of events that encourage physical activity, well-being, and healthy coexistence.
In summary, Fundación María Cano’s involvement in the Medellín Marathon 2025 highlights the essential role of the physiotherapist not only as a rehabilitator but also as a strategic ally in injury prevention, performance improvement, and comprehensive care for athletes at all stages of their sporting practice.
