María Cano in Popayán Strengthens Its Social Outreach Through a Training Experience at Fundación Cottolengo
- 9 marzo, 2026
Fundación Universitaria María Cano, through the Physiotherapy program at its Popayán campus, carried out a pre-practice visit within the framework of the course Neuromuscular Pathology and Intervention to Fundación Cottolengo del Padre Alegre, an institution that provides care and support to girls and women from low-income backgrounds living with neurological disabilities.
This academic experience allowed students to engage with a real care environment, strengthening their disciplinary knowledge while gaining a deeper understanding of rehabilitation and care processes for vulnerable populations. Direct interaction with this context significantly contributes to the development of clinical, ethical, and human skills essential for professional practice.
The activity is part of the institutional commitment of Fundación Universitaria María Cano to socially responsible education, where academic learning is closely connected with the realities of the community. Through these experiences, the institution promotes learning processes that go beyond the classroom and contribute to the well-being of communities in need of specialized support.
In this way, María Cano reaffirms its commitment to social outreach, creating spaces where academic training meets community needs. These initiatives help shape professionals who are socially conscious, committed, and prepared to contribute to social transformation within the field of health.
