- 16 enero, 2020

Thanks to the work led by the research professor, Adriana Marcela Rojas Gil, the María Cano University Foundation presents to the community the Kit: Evaluation in language in population with cognitive disabilities, which is a fundamental part for the development of the works led by the professionals of Phonoaudiology. The test to evaluate language in population with intellectual disability – PECOL – is the first test built and validated in the national context for this particular population. It allows to evaluate the language in its three levels: the first one referring to the content of the language, which refers to the cognitive relationships necessary to give meaning and interpret the elements that are part of the context, for that reason it is related to the semantic component; the second level is related to the form of language and the third level corresponding to the use of language in which the prerequisites of interaction and language functions are taken into account. This descriptive evaluation will allow the construction of objective intervention and follow-up plans, in accordance with the particular characteristics of the subjects and the context.
The test is for the use of students and professionals in speech therapy who attend this population in different scenarios; It can be used as support material in the teaching learning process of future professionals in speech therapy in subjects related to language assessment and intervention actions. The use of this test in research processes will also allow continuity to strengthen the profession in the construction of inputs that respond to the characteristics of specific population groups.
Available for interested professionals, for acquisition in the photocopier of Medellín headquarters.
