María Cano Promotes University Sports as Host of the ASCUN Regional Chess Games
- 20 marzo, 2026
Fundación Universitaria María Cano strengthens its role in university sports by hosting, for the first time, the ASCUN Regional University Games in the chess category, committing to provide an environment of excellence for athletes’ performance.
The event brings together more than 100 participants, including high-performance athletes and technical staff, positioning itself as a high-level competitive space where chess stands out not only as a sport, but also as a key element in comprehensive well-being and student development.
For María Cano and ASCUN, chess—known as the “science game”—plays a fundamental role in enhancing cognitive skills such as concentration, decision-making, and strategic thinking, while also strengthening essential ethical values for academic and professional life.

The importance of this regional stage is significant, as the winners will qualify directly for the National University Games, which will take place in Medellín during the second half of the year, making this event a platform for showcasing university sports talent.
As host, Fundación Universitaria María Cano extends a warm welcome to participating institutions, including the University of Antioquia, National University of Colombia, EAFIT University, ITM, Tecnológico de Antioquia, CES University, University of Medellín, and Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, among others.
Through its Institutional Well-being Office and the Sports and Culture Coordination, the institution reaffirms its commitment to strengthening university sports, promoting well-being, and fostering the development of professionals with discipline, strategic thinking, and strong ethical values.
