María Cano: Public Policies for Regional Entrepreneurship and Innovation
- 6 octubre, 2026
The María Cano’s Neiva campus held a discussion forum aimed at bringing the university community closer to public policies and opportunities that promote entrepreneurship, business development, and innovation in the region. This academic and dialogue-based space provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of connecting higher education with government and territorial initiatives focused on strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem. The activity was led by Professor Karol Vanessa Jáuregui Rodríguez and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit of the Neiva campus, with the support of its coordinators, Leonardo Fabio Medina Ortiz, from the Physiotherapy program, and Camila Alejandra Lozano Hernández, from the Speech-Language Pathology program.

The discussion featured Jorge Andrés Gechem as a guest speaker, who shared with students, faculty members, alumni, administrative staff, and other attendees different perspectives on public policies related to entrepreneurship, business development, and innovation, as well as their impact on creating opportunities and fostering the economic and social development of territories. During the meeting, the need to strengthen collaboration among academia, government, the business sector, and the community was highlighted, recognizing that entrepreneurship and innovation are important tools for transforming ideas into initiatives capable of addressing the needs and challenges of the regional context.
Likewise, the event provided the university community with an opportunity to learn more about policies and mechanisms that can support the development of entrepreneurial initiatives, promoting a perspective in which professional education is complemented by skills to innovate, undertake projects, manage initiatives, and generate an impact in the territory. From the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit, these spaces are part of the actions aimed at strengthening the institutional culture of innovation and creating opportunities for students and faculty members to identify existing possibilities for taking their knowledge and initiatives beyond the classroom.

Through this discussion forum, the Fundación Universitaria María Cano’s Neiva campus continues to strengthen its commitment to comprehensive education and to creating spaces that connect the academic community with the dynamics of entrepreneurship, innovation, and regional development. In doing so, it promotes a greater understanding of the opportunities available to advance innovative projects and contribute to the sustainable growth of the territory. #MásMaríaCano
