- 24 febrero, 2026
Research faculty from the Neiva campus—Diana Lucia Sinza Leyton, Daniela Perdomo Urazán, Gladys Tamayo Perdomo, Deisy Yulieth Silva Muñoz, Edna Paola Ramos González, and Yasmín Andrea Rodríguez Laiseca—together with professors from the Universidad de los Llanos (Unillanos), Sergio Alejandro Quijano Duarte and Mónica Vannesa Chanagá Gelves, proudly announce the publication of their latest article in the journal RETOS, Nuevas Tendencias en Educación Física, Deportes y Recreación, titled “Sociodemographic and Nutritional Factors Associated with Physical Performance in Non-Institutionalized Older Adults.”
This research emerged from community projects, academic practice, and research seedbeds at the Neiva campus, aiming to contribute to the field of community geriatrics. The study highlights the complexity of physical performance in older adults through a comprehensive approach in communes 3, 6 and 10 of the metropolitan area of Neiva.
Beyond the quantitative findings, the results invite a rethinking of functional assessment models by incorporating biopsychosocial dimensions that strengthen human development and functionality in this population. In this way, the study represents a significant contribution to the understanding of active aging.
From an applied perspective, the findings support the need to strengthen physical health promotion strategies for older adults, especially those focused on the early detection of functional decline. This publication reaffirms the research commitment of Fundación Universitaria María Cano to generating relevant knowledge for community well-being and quality of life.
The journal RETOS, founded by the Spanish Federation of Physical Education Teachers (FEADEF) and published by JURUFRA, specializes in disseminating original articles in the fields of physical activity sciences, sport, health, and recreation.
