New Food Guidelines Drive a Healthier and More Sustainable Medellín
- 10 noviembre, 2025
The María Cano University Foundation, in partnership with the Food and Nutrition Security Team of the Medellín District – Mayor’s Office, led a new session of the District SAN Lecture, a space that brought together representatives from the public, private, and academic sectors to strengthen the right to food and the sustainability of food systems.
The event focused on the new Biodiversity-Based Food Guidelines for Colombia (2025), a national initiative that integrates the country’s cultural and ecological diversity with the promotion of healthy and sustainable eating habits. Participants highlighted the territorial and participatory approach of these guidelines, aimed at reinforcing food sovereignty and autonomy within communities.

Experts such as Diego Alejandro Gaitán Charry (University of Antioquia), Paula Andrea Giraldo Sánchez (María Cano University Foundation), and members of the District SAN Team, Lina Vanegas Piedrahita and Fabio Arturo Bustos, shared meaningful experiences and presented the Food and Nutrition Education Toolbox — a practical pedagogical resource designed to strengthen capacities in educational and community settings.
The event reaffirmed an inter-institutional commitment to building a healthier, more sustainable, and sovereign Medellín, where education, science, and collective action come together as key pillars for the future of food and nutrition security.
