Professors and researchers from the Cali campus, Jorge Eliecer Manrique Julio, Leydin Carolina Vásquez Henao, and Julián David Cerón Bedoya, from the Physiotherapeutic Research Group, published an important study in the international scientific journal Societies (Q2 ranking in Scimago), titled «Inclusive Education in Higher Education: A Comparative Analysis of Faculty Attitudes, Knowledge, and Practices in Colombian Universities.»
This research was conducted in collaboration with Simón Bolívar University and the University of the Coast, member institutions of the Network of Universities for Disability (RedCiesd). The study analyzed a sample of 212 university professors from six Colombian cities, examining their attitudes, knowledge, and pedagogical practices regarding inclusive education, and identifying strengths and areas for improvement in the country’s higher education institutions.
The research revealed that, although university professors demonstrate positive attitudes toward inclusive education (95.75% with high or very high levels), significant challenges remain. There is significant variability in knowledge about inclusive strategies among professors, and academic background and subject area differentially influence the dimensions assessed, indicating the need for more targeted training interventions to reduce the knowledge gap.
The results underscore the need to strengthen teacher training in inclusive methodologies and promote flexible curricula that address both the theory and practice of inclusive education, thereby ensuring quality and equitable education for all students.
This work represents a significant contribution to the knowledge of inclusive education in the Colombian context and contributes to the development of more effective educational policies in higher education.
