Open Chair to contribute to Public Health in Popayan
- 16 marzo, 2020

The continuous and integral formation of the university community, from different scenarios and areas is fundamental for the professionals of The Maria Cano to respond in a clear and precise way to the demands of a globalized world; this is why the first open Chair from the line trends and analysis of contexts was made in Popayan Campus. This talk, which addressed the topic of Public Health Trends for the Department of Cauca, was directed by nurse Jorge Albeiro Sotelo, a master in this subject; who focused his presentation on the contextualization of the problems suffered by rural and urban areas of our department and the great demand for professionals in the area of Cauca. In this way, he left in the students, teachers, external public and other assistants a call of attention towards the actions and the role we must fulfill, as citizens, in the creation and strengthening of public policies aimed at generating a healthier department.
According to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, public health is the state and citizen’s responsibility to protect health as an essential individual, collective and community right achieved in terms of welfare conditions and quality of life; and it is increasingly relevant, at a time when the World Health Organization is facing issues of vital importance to public health worldwide, as is the case of Covid-19.
Popayan does not discontinue its effort to open debates of interest to the university community on current issues involving the social and governmental entities of each region.
