Our Bilingual Experiences

Training of Students and Graduates from Public Schools

We participated in the «Todas y Todos a Estudiar Inglés» (TTEI) strategy, which aimed to strengthen intercultural communication skills in students from public educational institutions in Santiago de Cali. Line 1 focused on training active students by providing 120 hours of training to students from participating educational institutions, including entrance and exit tests. The strategy was carried out in sessions, each with a snack, and also included two environmental and cultural awareness outings, also known as Exposure and Interaction Days in real-life language contexts. We directly instructed 80 students from this line between September 12 and November 28, 2023. Line 2, on the other hand, offered a 100% scholarship for English training to graduates of Official Educational Institutions and institutions with official registration. This 600-hour program included a placement test, an exit test to assess English proficiency, study materials, and snacks during training sessions.

Diploma in Strengthening Bilingualism

In partnership with the Secretary of Education of Neiva, we trained preschool and primary school teachers from various educational institutions in the capital of Huila with a diploma in general pedagogy and English language teaching. This initiative aimed to strengthen the teachers’ prior knowledge and, at the same time, provide strategies to rethink traditional academic training with a new focus, where the student is at the center and the goal is to teach them how to learn. In doing so, we developed 21st-century skills, such as creativity and innovation, critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration and teamwork, effective communication, digital literacy, autonomous learning, and cultural and global awareness.

Teacher Training

We participated in the project «Germina la Semilla Bilingüe,» through which we trained educators from public educational institutions in the district of Medellín. A total of 570 participants were certified in English and teaching methodologies, and another 100 teachers received certification from the APTIS for Teachers exam.

This work, carried out in collaboration with the Education Secretary of Medellín, started in August 2023, with 180 hours of training for the teaching course and 32 hours of preparation for the exam, which took place at María Cano’s facilities.
