PEI Update: Commitment to Quality, Educational Transformation, and Institutional Vision
- 8 julio, 2025

The María Cano University Foundation is moving forward with the update of its Institutional Educational Project (PEI), as a key instrument that articulates its identity, mission, vision, principles, pedagogical approach, and strategic projections. This is being carried out in alignment with current challenges and the institution’s ongoing commitment to quality and educational transformation. The process is supported by Dr. Elida Giraldo Gil — Ph.D. in Education from Southern Illinois University, USA; M.A. in Education from the University of Antioquia; Specialist in English Teaching from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana; and B.A. in English-Spanish Education from the University of Antioquia. Her involvement reinforces the institution’s dedication to quality, innovation, and holistic education, helping to define a clear path for teaching, research, social outreach, and internationalization — fundamental pillars of its academic mission.
The review and strengthening of the PEI are framed within the new challenges of higher education and the institution’s firm commitment to advancing the multi-campus institutional accreditation process. It aims to establish a coherent, relevant educational model with meaningful impact in the various regional contexts where the university operates. This update will strengthen the articulation between educational levels, respond effectively to the demands of the environment, and ensure that academic and administrative management align with national and international guidelines.
Through this initiative, María Cano reaffirms its future-oriented vision, its commitment to educational transformation, and its social responsibility. The update of the PEI is not just a technical act, but a participatory process that reflects the living identity of the institution and its ability to adapt to the demands of the present, while envisioning a higher education model characterized by human values, academic excellence, and social relevance.
This effort is led by Rector Hugo Alberto Valencia Porras, who has encouraged the active participation of all members of the university community: students, professors, alumni, staff, the assembly, and researchers. In doing so, the PEI update responds to the current educational needs of Colombia and the world, in alignment with the continuous evolution of the María Cano University Foundation.
