Phonoaudiology in International Congress of Research and Innovation
- 4 mayo, 2022

The Speech Therapy program, with the representation of the teacher and leader of the Fonotec group, Miguel Antonio Vargas García, participated in the International Research and Innovation Congress, held at the Universidad Centro de Estudios Cortázar – Mexico. The two socialized research experiences are based on the dynamics of research training generated at the María Cano University Foundation, in which 4 of our graduates had a leading role: 1. Angelica Cely Arboleda; 2. Juliza Tatiana Suarez; 3. Diego Alejandro Velez Gutierrez; 4. Laura Melissa Ruiz Restrepo.
The teacher presented to the multidisciplinary community participating in the congress the works entitled:
- Classification of the level of risk for functional alterations of swallowing (CRAF).
- Speech-language pathology approach to dysphagia in the NICU: Systematic review.
The papers presented are due to the results of degree projects created by students in the framework of the Dysphagia Diploma, in which Professor Vargas contributed his knowledge as Co-author of the resulting production, which today amounts to more than 5 products, adding products typology I and III.
Both works have an area in common, dysphagia, and represent an important result for speech therapy in view of the contributions it offers in dealing with swallowing disorders. Those interested in reading the proposals resulting from these works can do so at the following links:

Participation in the congress made it possible to make the María Cano brand visible, as an institution that aims to strengthen the professional performance of speech therapists in the area of oral pharyngeal function in Colombia and Latin America; In addition, it allows configuring the importance of the research training processes that are carried out within the program, demonstrating that research training, as it is proposed, can propose relevant results that can be presented on any international platform. The work of the CRAF, for example, had already been presented before in Argentina, with Mexico being the second country in which it is presented as a risk classification proposal for dysphagia.
The event in Mexico had multidisciplinary participation from different countries and María Cano was present there.
