Students and professors of the speech therapy program in the capital of the department of Huila are committed to the community and are present in activities of social welfare and support for the inhabitants of the region; On this occasion, the university community accompanied the Health and Culture Megabrigade organized by different entities of the municipality, where it was possible to care for adults and children with the quality and service that characterize María Cano. Speech Therapy is a health profession that deals with human communication, its disorders and variations; focused on the areas of hearing, language, speech, voice and oral-pharyngeal function, which can be affected by biological, psychological or social causes that affect the communicative well-being of people and their quality of life.
In this sense, the speech therapist is constituted as the ideal professional for its approach due to the scientific and deep knowledge of human communication as a sphere of personal and social development. Its actions are aimed at identifying the communication needs of the population, evaluation, diagnosis and intervention of communication disorders and alterations in the educational, social welfare, health and business sectors; is a manager of projects and research that contribute to the development of the individual, communities and the profession.
Since 2020, the Speech Therapy program has been present in the city of Neiva, with a continuous academic and research program that demonstrates the actions for the benefit of the communicative processes of society. The Speech Therapist of the María Cano University Foundation defines himself as a professional with critical thinking, autonomous with social commitment and a glocal vision, entrepreneur and innovator, expert in Human Communication, its disorders and the processes that concern him: Language, speech, voice, hearing and oral pharyngeal function.
